News Releases :   HOUSTON SITE FOR 2009 FAPAC CONFERENCE

News Description :   WASHINGTON, DC – The Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC), the premier organization representing Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) employees in the Federal and District of Columbia governments, will hold its 24th National Annual Leadership Training Conference on May 11-15, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Houston, Texas. Each year the Office of Personnel Management approves the conference as appropriate training for federal employees for many years. The newly elected President, Mr. Farook Sait, announced that the organization will exert its greatest effort to stage a great conference in spite of the current economic downturn. Houston with its large number of AAPI population is an ideal site.

The conference will feature workshops on leadership and communication skills to provide attendees with the tools for career advancement in the Federal government. In addition, there will be workshops on career opportunities in the public sector. Plenary sessions will provide insights and role models from distinguished leaders in the AAPI community, such as presentations on the profiles of AAPI in America and working with government and other AAPI organizations. Military and civilian awards, as well as scholarships will also be presented at the conference. Details on the award and the application will be available shortly on-line.

Dr. Kin Wong, the Chair for the Houston Conference, emphasizes the need to reach the younger workers as they enter the workforce. There will be presentation for students and the millennial. Agencies from both uniformed services and civilian agencies will have exhibit booths where attendees can meet with representatives and receive career information.

To ensure a successful conference, FAPAC will be launching an extensive outreach to the Houston communities. Local media can assist FAPAC to spread the word to the various ethnic communities in the greater Houston area, especially high school and college students, about the upcoming conference. Students can register free of charge for the exhibits and special presentations. Special rates for uniformed personnel in active duty are also available. For sponsorship or attendance information, please call Kin Wong at (202) 366-0626 or Farook Sait (202) 720-7569 or visit www.fapac.org.
